Plastic industry suffers from imported entry

The plastics industry started the year with a fairly timid growth, thanks to stiff competition that has been facing before the entry of imported products. Nevertheless, the sector of housewares, which are companies that produce cups, dishes and bowls, as well as recycle bins and buckets, follows at a pace considered fairly good. "This is one of the threads that walks as well, because of the constant need for innovation that it requires, it is less affected by imported," says José Ricardo Roriz Coelho, President of the Brazilian Association of plastic Industry (Abiplast).

With large international companies, but well known in the Brazilian market, such as Plasútil, Betanin and SC Johnson, owner of the Ziploc, the thread is well consolidated in the country and close to the consumer, to a place wide retail networks.

Proof of this are some investments that have been made. The Plasútil, which has more than 1,000 products in your portfolio, inaugurated last Friday the expansion of its plant in Bauru (SP), whose values are not disclosed. The new production line has the capacity to produce 1 million pieces per month, from 10 different collections. Sought, the company had no spokesman available to give an interview.

X imports exports

In addition to work on the internal market, companies also export a good part of that produce. Only the Plasútil exports to more than 40 countries. Even so, the volume is infinitely less when compared to the amount of imported products that land in the Brazilian retail.

Despite the challenges, the production of plastics in Brazil in January grew 1.75% as compared to the same period in 2012. The various artifacts in the segment which is the area of housewares grew 5% during the period. The packaging industry has also grown, 5.28%.

Abiplast data indicate that in 2012, the whole sector exported $ 1.29 billion compared to imports of $ 3.51 billion. Already the housewares accounts for about 4% of the total plastic products exported and 3% of the total imported.

"Even so, it is possible to see the difference between what came and went from Brazil in this segment in 2012", reveals rabbit. Last year, exports of products of housewares, classified in category of plastics in General, totaled $ 43 million, while imports totaled $ 86,74 million.
