In comparison with the third quarter of 2012, the retraction in physical production reaches 9.3%. "We knew that this would happen, but we were in expectation of the actuals of the period," said the President of the entity, Fabio Arruda Mortara. The data used as the basis for the entity were calculated by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE).
As the Abigraf from segmentation is made by IBGE, editorial graphics products sector was mainly responsible for the fall in the quarter, with 10.7% below the performance verified in the second quarter and of 16.2% compared to the previous year. "The import volume in the publishing industry has affected the graphic production," he said.
Survey of the entity, based on data from the Ministry of development, industry and foreign trade (Mdic), shows that imports of books in 2013, until October, totaled 20.4 thousand tons, with expansion of 9% compared to the first ten months of 2012.
On the other hand, the commercial print segment showed growth of 4.6% between July and September, compared to the registered in the second quarter, and the printed packaging registered modest growth of 0.6%.
For 2014, according to the forecast of Mortara, industry performance, based on physical production, is to fall to 1.7%. "It's a prediction more optimistic because we imagine Cup and elections will make any difference."
