Samsung leads sales of smartphones

SÃO PAULO – After 10% lower financial results announced on Monday, 28, Apple appears again at a disadvantage on the market in a report on sales of smartphones in the third quarter of this year, released by the consultancy Strategy Analytics. The document shows that for the first time in more than 250 million smartphones were sold worldwide in a single quarter – a high of 45% compared to the previous year-with Samsung as sales leader.
The South Korean company grew 55% over the period and 88.4 million smartphones sold, a record equivalent to 35% of the world market of smartphones.
Meanwhile, Apple grew 26% in the same period, with sales of 33.8 million iPhones. The company's market share fell from 16% to 13% over the previous year.
"Samsung sold twice more smartphones than Apple in the quarter", stated through note the Director of Strategy Analitics Neil Mawston. "While sales of Galaxy model S4 declined, the demand by Note 3 and by mass devices like Galaxy Y helped increase sales of Samsung."
Strategic Analytics, however, predicts that Apple's participation in the global sales of smartphones will increase in the next quarter with the high demand for iPhone 5S.
Behind Samsung and Apple, Huawei still appear in the list (for the first time between the first three), LG, Lenovo, respectively.
