GM summons recall for fire hazard

General Motors starts tomorrow the 43,971 repair truck S10 units to correct defect that can cause fire in the vehicle. Is the sixth recall made by a manufacturer of automobiles and light commercial in October.
With this summons, reaches 45 total campaigns this year, involving 584.5 million vehicles, of which 0.3 thousand are motorcycles. The number is 56.8% higher than in the same period last year.
The recall involves models S10 and 2012.2013 manufactured between June 13, 2011 and 2014 October 11, 2013. According to the manufacturer, there is a risk of fuel leaks in the engine compartment, which can result in fire.
The problem is a result of a fuel pipe friction with the crotch loop heating hoses or with electric whip air pressure sensor, which can damage the fuel pipe.
The GM dealers will provide free repair or replacement of fuel pipe. On Monday, BMW began recall of 3,416 units of 11 cars of the brand for brake system problems.
In view of the technical advisor to Procon dò-SP, Andrea Arantes, despite the inconvenience, the recall is a good thing. She acknowledges that, on an industrial scale, failures can occur and the calling minimizes this problem. It is therefore positive.
The governing body directs consumers to meet the call as fast as possible to avoid the implementation of possible accidents, although there is no deadline for the completion of repairs or replacement of defective parts. According to several automakers, the attendance index to recall is low in Brazil.
Since 2011, however, an Ordinance of the Ministry of Justice and the National Department of transit (Denatran) determines that the service not a recall within one year from the date of its communication, must be entered in the vehicle licensing certificate.
From January to October, 2012-the 43 recall campaigns (10 of motorbikes) involved 348.7 thousand vehicles, according to data from Procon/SP. In the year all were 50 calls, a total of 372.8 million vehicles.
