Two-wheel market shows gradual resumption in production and sales

The Brazilian two-wheeled industry has been recovering from the outage imposed by the pandemic of the new Coronavirus. The sector recorded the production of 78,130 units in June at the Industrial Pole of Manaus (PIM). This volume, according to Abraciclo – an association that brings together manufacturers – represents a 427.6% increase compared to May of this year (14,809 units), a month in which automakers gradually resumed production.
Compared to June last year (68,121 units), there was a rise of 14.7%. This growth, however, is related to the partial vacation period recorded last year in some PIM motorcycle factories. In the first half of 2020, 392,217 motorcycles were manufactured, corresponding to a reduction of 27% compared to the same period in 2019 (537,105 units).
Wholesale sales – In June, factories sold 76,189 motorcycles to their dealerships, representing a growth of 315.1% compared to May (18,355 units) and an increase of 5.6% compared to June last year (72,121 units). In the first half, wholesale sales totaled 377,119 units, a decrease of 28.7% compared to the same period in 2019 (528,893 units).
Performance by category – In June, the scooter – example: Honda Biz – was the category that recorded the highest growth in terms of percentage variation. A total of 12,714 units were sold, a volume 9,832.8% higher than in the previous month (128 units). Compared to June last year (9,426 units), there was a 34.9% increase.
In absolute numbers, the Street category remained the most commercialized wholesale in June, with 41,177 units, representing an increase of 442.3% compared to May (7,593 units) and an increase of 11.5% compared to June 2019 (36,938 units).
Plated – The plates registered a high in June compared to May of this year. According to a survey by the National Register of Motor Vehicles (Renavam) 45,855 motorcycles were licensed, representing an increase of 57.1% compared to May (29,192 units) and a 42.7% decrease compared to June 2019 (80,023 units).
In the first half of the year, retail sales totaled 350,141 units, representing a decrease of 33.9% compared to the same period in 2019 (530,034 units).
