Piracanjuba invests R$ 80 million in cheese factory in Paraná

The municipality of São Jorge D'Oeste, in southwestern Paraná, will host the largest cheese factory in the country, an initial investment of R$ 80 million made by Piracanjuba, the State Department of Agriculture said in a statement. In the beginning, the plant is expected to process 600,000 liters of milk per day, but the total capacity is expected to reach 2 million liters/day.
The municipality is home to a dairy basin in the state and, according to the superintendent of Piracanjuba, César Helou, the unit to be built will be one of the most important of the company. "This will be the largest cheese factory in Brazil, as well as a small long-life milk factory and a butter factory," Helou said. "We are still calculating what the total investment will be in this plant," he explained.
In addition to the São Jorge D'Oeste unit, Piracanjuba has another unit in Paraná, in the municipality of Sulina, which went into operation in September 2019.
In total, Piracanjuba has seven factories, located in Bela Vista de Goiás, Governador Valadares (MG), Maravilha (SC), Sulina (PR), Araraquara (SP), Três Rios (RJ) and Carazinho (RS), with processing capacity of 6 million liters of milk per day.
