Walmart sales surpass expectations in 3Q, ecommerce grows 43%

NEW YORK (Reuters)-the U.S. retailer Walmart group reported on Thursday high of 3,4% in sales at United States stores open at least a year, as more customers bought in stores and on the website of the network, motivated by a strong economy. Comparable sales growth, excluding fuel, exceeded expectations of 2,87% analysts, according to IBES data of Refinitiv. Only in electronic commerce, sales jumped 43% in the third quarter, after an increase of 40% in the previous quarter. Walmart ecommerce performance became a metric widely expected at a time when the company strives to face competition from giant Amazon.com for market share. Adjusted earnings per share of Walmart increased to 1.08 dollar per share, beating the estimate of 1.01 dollar per share. The retailer still raised the projections to 2019 of profit and of comparable sales, excluding petrol, in the United States.
