Prices of items of high consumption go up 0.39% in September, says Open

Product prices in Brazilian supermarkets rose by 0.39 percent in September 2018 compared with August of the same year, according to the Abrasmercado, composed of 35 wide consumption products researched by GfK and analyzed by the Department of Economics and Research of the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Open). The total cost of the basket reached $460.29 in September, up from R R $458.53 in August. In comparison with September 2017, there was high of 3.07%. Among the biggest high of September, are products like rice, whose price rose 4.39 percent, and frozen chicken, with a high of 3.64%. Already among the largest falls are the onion, which retreated 24%, and the laundry detergent with 17.48% drop. For the Director of GfK's relationship, Marcus Aurelius, the trend is that the basket to finish the year with high price of around 3.5%. He estimates that the cooling of the depreciation of the real against the dollar helps to reduce the pressure for price increases in dolarizadas categories, such as wheat flour and breads.
