Supermarket sales in July rise 4.2% over a year earlier

SAO PAULO-The actual sales of supermarkets in the country went up 4,2% in July compared with same period last year, announced on Tuesday the association representing the industry, Open.
In comparison with June, sales rose 7,58%.
"The positive numbers in July leave us optimistic for further sales of the next few months, when we hope to maintain that level of growth, stimulated by seasonal sales campaigns, said Márcio Milan, Superintendent of the Open, referring to the children''s day, the Week of the fish and the end-of-year parties.
From January to July, sales rose 0,66% in real values, deflated by the IPCA.
The Open will await the result of August to decide whether to review the growth expectation for the year 2016, which is currently 0,4% high, according to the advice of the entity.
