Movement in trade falls 9.5% in April compared with same month of 2015, says Serasa

SAO PAULO-the consumer movement in the retail trade fell 9.5% in April in the country in comparison with the same month of 2015, without seasonal adjustment, according to Serasa Experian Indicator of Trade activity. Negative rates were 10.1% in the segment of supermarkets, hypermarkets, food and beverages; in 14% on furniture, electronics and Informatics; at 19.2% in vehicles, motorcycles and parts; at 14.5% in textiles, clothing, footwear and accessories; and 6.1% in construction material. "Similarly, in the first quarter of 2016, only the segment of fuels and lubricants (4.8%) is a growth compared to the first quarter of 2015", according to Serasa.
On that basis of comparison, the activity of supermarkets, hypermarkets, food and drinks had 7.2% retraction; the furniture, electronics and computers yielded 13.3%; the vehicles, motorcycles and parts fell 19.4%; the fabrics, clothing, footwear and accessories registered a negative variation of 14.6%; and the construction material fell 4.9%.
In comparison with March this year, the only downfall, of 0.4%, was seen in fabrics, clothing, footwear and accessories. Fuels and lubricants activity was stable compared with the previous month, while the others were discharged: supermarkets, hypermarkets, food and drinks (0.1%); furniture, electronics and Informatics (1.2%); vehicles, motorcycles and parts (0.8%); construction material (1.9%).
