Supermarket sales fall 1.32% in July, aims to Open

In July, sales of the supermarket sector in real values (deflated by the IPCA/IBGE) showed high of 4.97% in comparison with the previous month and a fall of 1.32 percent over the same month of the year of 2014, reported this morning the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Open). Year to date, actual sales were virtually stable in annual comparison, with a slight fall of 0.2%. In nominal values, the industry showed sales high of 5.62% in July compared with the previous month and when compared to July 2014, up 8.11 percent. Year to date, sales rose 8.07% in nominal terms.
In a statement, the entity informs the indicator shows that the slow pace of the Brazilian economy already affects the sales of the supermarket sector. "For now, we can consider sales practically stable compared to last year, but will work for better results," says Helen Honda, President of the Advisory Board of the Open.
Food retailers reported in second-quarter reports, slowdown in demand, especially in supermarkets, and some growth in sales from shy neighborhood. The performance have been more positive in wholesale shops, that prices between 10% to 15% below the supermarkets,   but   these results are not computed in the Open.
