Chlorine production has fall of 1.2 percent from January to July, Association says

The chlorine production in the first seven months of the year recorded a 1.2% drop compared to the same interval last year, according to data released by the Brazilian Association of chlorine-alkali industry and derivatives (Abiclor). During this period were produced 735.319 thousand tons of chlorine.
Sectorial consumption of inputs (total sales added to captive use) showed a negative variation of 1.6% over the period.
The production of caustic soda also features fall in year-to-date. The decrease in production was of 1.1% between January and July, to 809.5 million tons, compared with 818.4 million tons in the same period in 2014. The total sales of soda had slight positive variation, of 0.2% to 717.187 thousand tons. Already imports decreased by 15.6% to 575.008 thousand tons.
The rate of capacity utilisation of chlorine-alkali industry reached 83.1% in the first seven months of the year, 2.5% lower compared to the same range of 2014, says Abiclor. "In the month of July, exceptionally, the utilization rate was 87.2%," says.
In the evaluation of the Abiclor, the current economic scenario, associated with the progressive increase in electric power, indicates that the coming months will continue to be challenging, as was the first half of 2015 for the industry sector.
The chlorine and soda refill more than 16 sectors of economic activity, taking into account the needs of different segments of the industries of agricultural pesticides, cleaning products, pulp and paper, electronics, metallurgy, textile, water treatment, among others.
