Sale of imported falls 28.6% in August

São Paulo
The fall of 28.6% of sales of imported vehicles in August compared to the previous year frustrated the expectations of the Brazilian Association of Automotive vehicle manufacturers and Importers (Abeifa) that the industry recovery would happen in the second half of the year.
For the entity, the indentation is a result, in particular, the lack of demand and non-credit. Given the scenario, the direction of the Association does not provide for the recovery of the sector in the medium and short term.
"Our problem is demand, not credit. It may even be a stimulus, but it won't be enough for the contribution that we need, "said the President of Abeifa, Marcel Viscount, in commenting on the results of August. For him, as much as there is to credit for stimulus from the Government and banks to encourage consumption, these measures are no longer falling in taste of the final consumer, because "no news".
According to him, the great problem of low demand today is the lack of confidence. "We see the consumer with little belief in the future," he said.
Viscount affirms that this lack of confidence is the result, among other things, of weaker economic activity, evidenced by GDP data in technical recession, and the expectations of the elections. He points out that, for September, the market should fall around 7% or 8%, completing the third quarter falling around 12%. For the fourth quarter of the year, he expects that sales should be boosted because of the auto show.
For 2014, the Abeifa revised for the second time the sales projection, of 100 thousand to about 90 thousand, same level of 2013. At the beginning of the year, the estimate was 120 thousand cars.
