Audi sells fewer cars than Mercedes and stirs up competition

-Audi sold fewer cars than the rival Mercedes-Benz for the first time this year, the latest sign of intensifying rivalry in sales among major automakers of luxury cars from Germany.
Sales of the luxury Division of Volkswagen grew 6.4% to 159,950 cars and SUVs, the best result in the history of Audi for September, though still behind the contestant.
Mercedes-Benz sold 162,746 units, representing growth of 14% over the previous year, benefiting from the launch of new models and growing demand in China.
Audi, which has overtaken Mercedes in 2011, becoming the second-largest automaker behind the luxury BMW saw its sales advantage over the Division of Daimler shrink to 103,494 cars. /Reuters
