Retail sales grow 8% in June, says IBGE

Retail trade grew 8% in June compared to May this year, pointed out on Wednesday, 12, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). According to analysts polled by Bloomberg, the expectation was that the data was up 5% in the period.
The quarterly moving average expanded 0.9 percentage points in the quarter ended June. In the series without seasonal adjustment, retail sales grew 0.5% compared to the same period in 2019. The accumulated in the last 12 months was 0.1%.
According to IBGE, in the expanded retail trade (which includes vehicles, motorcycles, parts and construction material parts), sales volume increased 12.6% compared to May, while the quarterly moving average was 3.9%.
Compared to June last year, the same segment recorded a drop of 0.9%, the fourth negative rate. The accumulated in the last 12 months was -1.3%.
As the institute points out, for the second consecutive month, the results showed less impact on the trade of the social isolation situation in the face of the pandemic of covid-19.
