Inflation rises 0.36% in July, the highest for the month since 2016

July inflation stood at 0.36%, mainly influenced by the rise in gasoline and electricity prices, the two items with the greatest impact in the month, which underwent adjustments.
The rate is the highest for the month of July since 2016, when it recorded 0.52%. Compared to the previous month, the increase was 0.1 percentage point.
The data were released on Friday (7/8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and make up the National Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA).
In the accumulated year 2020, the indicator is 0.46%, while in the last 12 months it is 2.31%. By July 2019, the rate had been 0.19%.
Of the nine groups of products and services surveyed, six were discharged in July. The biggest impact comes from transport, which rose 0.78%.
Among the items, gasoline contributed to the highest individual impact on the IPCA of the month, with an increase of 3.42%.
"Gasoline continues to reverse the movement it had in April and May. It had already risen in June and rose again in July. In addition, there was a less intense drop in air fares compared to May and June," said Pedro Kislanov, research manager.
