Higher revenue in the first half

The Brazilian food and beverage industry recorded growth of 0.8% in revenues and 2.7% in physical production in the first half of 2020, compared to the same period last year.
The data are from the Brazilian Food Industry Association (Abia), which attributes the increase to the expansion of exports and the performance of food retail in the domestic market - driven by the increase in household consumption.
The sectors that stood out in production volume were: sugar (+22.6%), vegetable oils (+3.9%) and meat (+1.9%). In the first half, exports of industrialized foods totaled US$ 17.6 billion.
Between January and June, the food service recorded a 29.5% drop in sales. The sector earned R$ 64.5 billion, against R$ 91.4 billion in the same period last year.
According to Abia, the expectation is that the food and beverage industry will end 2020 with growth of up to 1% in real sales and about 11% in exports, meeting the demand of more than 180 countries.
