Dow signs agreement for development of recycled post-consumer resin

Dow, a materials science company dedicated to innovation and the creation of solutions for life, through technology and chemistry, has signed an agreement with the Association of Argentine Cooperatives (ACA), specialists in providing comprehensive solutions for agriculture, which create value in a competitive and sustainable way, to develop a high-quality plastic resin made of post-consumer recycled plastic for the Argentine market.
The agreement, which is aligned with the new Sustainability Goals recently announced by Dow for 2030, aims to provide solutions that help reduce plastic waste waste, also in Argentina, where the daily average of municipal solid waste (MS) per inhabitant is 1.1 kg and the annual total of municipal solid waste generated reaches 18 million tons – of which 43% end up in open-air dumps.
"Dow, with this alliance, wants to continue promoting the shift from a linear economy to a circular economy. We are confident that this collaboration agreement with the ACA will increase the search for solutions and the synergies of the complementary interests that unite us," said Tamires Silvestre, Dow's Sustainability Manager.
In Brazil, Dow has initiatives to improve the collection and separation processes and promote the return of waste through products such as post-consumer recycled resins (PCR), as in the Recycling That Transforms project (in partnership with Boomera and Avina Foundation). The pilot project, carried out in 2019, had the participation of five cooperatives, which sent for recycling 4,429 tons of materials – 37% more than in 2018.
Through this new commitment and other direct actions or alliances, Dow will reuse 1 million tons of plastics. The company focused on building value alliances with like-minded partners willing to work to find solutions that benefit everyone.
The successful implementation of a circular economy will only be possible through collaboration between industry, consumers, NGOs and government.
