Ypê reaches 98% of recyclable packaging

Ypê, a Brazilian cleaning and hygiene products company, celebrates this June the reach of 98% of recyclable packaging available on the market.
This number is very representative not only for Ypê, but for the entire consumer chain, since the brand is present in 91.4% of Brazilian households, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel's annual Brand Footprint report, published in 2019.
In addition, in the last six years, Ypê has used on average 53% recycled PET resin in the manufacture of its vials, replacing virgin PET, being an intelligent option in that it rationalizes the use of natural resources.
The company also invests in innovative packaging and has saved in the last nine years the use of 25,600 tons of plastic and cardboard. Of this amount, 12,000 tons saved are plastic and are equivalent to almost 900 million bottles of dishwasher 500 milliliters, and 13,600 tons are saved cardboard.
"Due to the representativeness of the Ypê brand, we understand that we have a strong responsibility for the circularity of packaging, so we seek to act in the best way. We manufacture our packaging and, as we expand the insertion of recycled material in their composition, we increase the demand for this type of material. In addition to encouraging and strengthening the business of recycling cooperatives, we also promote the proper disposal of waste, avoiding its disposal in the environment. The use of recycled material is an intelligent option as it rationalizes the use of natural resources, besides having relevance in the social issue", says Cesar Nicolau, marketing director of Ypê.
Thinking about the value equation of products, which considers quality, accessibility and sustainability, Ypê maintains a specific area of packaging projects to bring innovations. It is a pioneering initiative of the company, which for more than 20 years has used in the production of softener bottles, multipurpose and chlorogel labels adhered to the bottle itself. The system adopted is the In Mold Label (IML), which facilitates the recycling of packaging in cooperatives, as it does not need to be separated from the bottle. This technology allows the placement of labels or illustrations directly in the injection or blow mold, producing a molded part with the desired identification without the need for adhesive label placement or printing.
