Unemployment insurance: country has 653,200 applications in June

The Department of Labor of the Ministry of Economy reported on Thursday (9) that were registered 653,2 thousand applications for unemployment insurance in June. The number is 28.4% higher than in the same month last year, when there were 508,900 requests.
With the data from June, the total number of unemployment insurance claims since the second half of March, when the Brazilian economy began to feel the effects of the pandemic of the new coronavirus, rose to 2.59 million.
According to the ministry, the three states with the highest number of unemployment insurance applications in June were São Paulo (199,066), Minas Gerais (70,333) and Rio de Janeiro (52,163).
Regarding the economic sectors, June orders are distributed among services (41.7%), trade (25.4%), industry (18.7%), construction (10.1%) and agriculture (4.1%).
In the first six months of this year, the Ministry of Economy said, 3.9 million applications for unemployment insurance were counted. The figure represents an increase of 14.8% compared to the same period in 2019 (3.4 million).
