Food giants donate R$ 64 million against pandemic

More than 2,700 tons of food and about R$ 64 million in donations have been distributed by large companies in the food sector since the beginning of March, according to a survey by ABIA (Brazilian Food Industry Association). Companies linked to the entity include Danone, Ambev, Bauducco, McDonald's, BRF, Cargill, Vigor, Mondelez, Oetker Brasil, Hershey, Leão, Nestlé, Pepsico and Unilever. Also according to ABIA, Brazil's food industry did not fire any employees, but hired 6,000 professionals during the pandemic of the new coronavirus. Financial resources for purchases of hospital equipment and investments in research and acquisition of rapid covid-19 tests were also donated, in addition to 4 million masks and hygiene products. Donations were allocated between charities, hospitals and health units, self-employed professionals, community associations, nursing homes, state governments and municipalities.
