Business increases

Exports of industrialized foods recorded a 10% increase in sales compared to April 2019, and by volume of 13%. The survey is from the Brazilian Food Industry Association (Abia). The increase in exports to the Asian market, in particular to China, was the main factor for this result. On the other hand, real sales, which are the total sales of the food and beverage industry for the domestic and international markets, fell 4.5% compared to April 2019. Physical production had the same downward behavior, with -4%.
Also according to the association's survey, the sector was responsible for creating 8,000 job openings between January and April this year - hiring grew 0.5% compared to the same period in 2019. As an essential activity, the food industry continued to produce during the quarantine caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
