Agricultural revenues expected to reach R$ 703.8 billion in 2020

The Gross Value of Agricultural Production (VBP, revenues) of Brazil is expected to reach R$ 703.8 billion this year, an increase of 8.5% in the annual comparison and a record for the historical series started in 1989, according to an estimate by the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa) updated on Monday (15).
In the monthly variation, the projection represents a slight advance of 0.97% compared to the R$ 697 billion estimated by the portfolio in May.
The production value for crops increased from R$ 462 billion in the previous month's estimate to R$ 469.8 billion, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year. Livestock remained at R$ 234 billion, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2019.
"The record grain harvest estimated at 250.5 million tons, agricultural prices and the favorable performance of some crops, such as coffee and sugarcane, were decisive in the values obtained from the VBP," josé Garcia Gasques, general coordinator of the Ministry's Agricultural Policy Secretariat, said in a statement.
The folder highlighted, based on information from the National Supply Company (Conab), that the appreciation of the dollar against the real has put domestic prices of agricultural commodities at high levels.
Prices of corn (+19.7%), soybeans (+11.8%) and Arabica coffee (+20.4%) advanced in the annual variation. Added together, the three products -- including robust coffee -- account for 57.8% of the VBP of the crops.
The portfolio also cited the record in oilseed exports accumulated between January and May, of 48 million tons.
"The international market has also reflected in livestock, whose prices of beef and pork have been rising compared to last year," said the pasta on the animal protein market.
VBP regional data show, as in previous reports, the leadership of the Midwest, with R$ 222.19 billion, followed by the Southeast region with R$ 174.9 billion, South (R$ 167.7 billion), Northeast (R$ 67.2 billion) and North (R$ 44.6 billion).
