150,000 masks are donated by Braskem and Alpargatas in Camaçari

A donation of 150,000 masks for hospital use was made to health professionals in Camaçari, in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador, by Braskem in partnership with Alpagartas. The items were delivered on Monday (25) to the City Hall of the city. The idea is to help fight the new coronavirus. The masks were made by Alpargatas from the non-used polypropylene resin (PP) donated by Braskem to Fitesa, one of the world leaders in this sector. The nonwoven is a synthetic material similar to the fabric, obtained through an alloy of fibers and a polymer, usually polypropylene. "We believe that sustainable chemical and plastic solutions improve people's lives. In this time of pandemic, disposable products are essential to protect professionals who work in health units and take care of all of us. It is our duty to contribute to taking care of them as well," explains Carlos Alfano, Braskem's Industrial Director in Bahia. In partnership with other companies and public authorities in Bahia, Braskem has donated more than 40 tons of plastic resin for the production of disposables, packaging and product protection equipment to the state's public health network, including 50,000 Face Shield masks and 30 tons of hypochlorite for the manufacture of sanitary water. Communities in situations of social vulnerability around the industrial units in Camaçari, Salvador, Candeias, Dias d'Ávila and Simões Filho received 8,000 hygiene and cleaning kits, and a total of 525 basic baskets are being delivered to 174 waste pickers working in waste recycling for three months. In addition, in the Volunteer Program, Braskem Members have been promoting initiatives such as crowdfunding to buy basic baskets and hygiene materials for donation to the elderly of the São Gabriel Shelter and for children assisted by the Vó Flor Charitable Association and the CTE Capoeiragem Institute in Salvador and Camaçari.
