E-commerce Advances 82%

GPA's total sales totaled R$21.6 billion in the first quarter, a 14% increase over last year. In the period, e-commerce grew 82%, driven by the Coronavirus pandemic, which was responsible for the 150% jump in the last two weeks of March. In Brazil, GPA recorded a 15% increase in sales, to R$ 15.9 billion, of which R$ 8.5 billion came from the cash and carry assaí network. In the first quarter, the flag grew by 7.1% and the multi-retail division, which includes the Brands Pão de Açúcar, Extra and Compre Bem, had an increase of 6.6% in sales of the same stores. Due to the pandemic, the company increased the stocks of basic products by 15%.
