Supermarkets in SP have an increase of 8.5% in weekend attendance

The São Paulo Association of Supermarkets (Apas) reported that supermarkets in the State of São Paulo had an 8.5% growth in the frequency of consumers. The survey was conducted by the entity with 150 companies (representing more than 50% of revenues in the state) and identified growth in a period of three days. March 13,14 and 15 were compared with the period of February 14, 15 and 16 — the two intervals correspond to weekends and are therefore comparable. "This shows that there has been good growth, but no risk of shortages," said Apas President Ronaldo dos Santos. He participated in a meeting with Governor João Doria (PSDB) held on Monday (16) in the Bandeirantes Palace. "The government's concern is with outbreaks of shortages that have occurred in recent days. And we put to the governor that this survey, done yesterday, shows that there is no such risk," Santos said. "What worries me is that any short-term gain has a long-term loss. It seems like a consumer anticipation movement," he said. According to Santos, the most searched item was toilet paper. "Alcohol gel is over even, you do not find. And toilet paper has a curiosity, because it takes up a lot of space in the gondolas, so markets tend not to keep large quantities in stores," he said.
