Chocolate industry falls 3% in 2019

The chocolate industries in Brazil manufactured 756,000 tons of products last year, a 3% drop over the previous year, according to data that have just been consolidated by the Brazilian Association of the Chocolate, Peanut and Candy Industry (Abicab). Per capita consumption last year was estimated at 2.6 kg of chocolate per inhabitant, still according to the entity. More optimistic. Because it is not a product of first necessity, the consumption of chocolate accompanies the economic activity. But for 2020 the look is more optimistic. For Easter this year the sector will generate 14,000 temporary jobs to meet demand both on the production line and at points of sale, according to the association. In factories, the increase in labor volume in the period, in the annual ratio, is around 16%.
