MSMEs Increase Retail Participation

The participation of micros, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in retail revenues has recorded growth, according to a survey by FecomercioSP. Between 2013 and 2017, net operating revenue from large companies fell 6.7% and the representativeness of MSMEs increased by 1.8 percentage points, reaching 35.5% of the total (R$ 724.3 billion). However, during the period, 98,490 MSMEs closed their doors, reducing by 7.1% the number of establishments operating in retail. The decline in large companies was 3.8%. The research also points out that in times of crisis, Brazilians prioritize products and services marketed by small establishments.
