Industry assembles one of the largest biodigesters in Latin America

They have varying sizes and formats, but fulfill the same function: turn biomass into biogas. Many small producers are already making this investment. In the municipality of Tupã, Manoel Domingues Cardoso uses the waste of the creation of 5,000 pigs to produce methane gas. The result came in the environment and the energy bill. He spent about R$ 15,000 a month. Now, the cost is nothing more than 700 reais. Energy is used throughout the property, such as in slaughterhouse, feed plant and electrical agricultural implements. Large companies also see in the biodigester a solution to the challenge of dealing with waste from the industrial process. In Palmital, in the Midwest of SP, one of the largest biodigesters in Latin America came into operation. The industry processes almost 180,000 tons of corn and 75,000 tons of cassava per year to produce starch and sweeteners. During the process, solid material is separated from liquid and bacteria digest organic matter and generate biogas. Solid waste is used as fertilizer in cassava planting. The net part goes into biogas production. It is clean and sustainable energy being employed in the operation of the factory. The company invested R$ 15 million in equipment and modernization of the water treatment system. At the end of all work, up to 95% of all organic load is removed from the water, which is only then returned to the environment. The new system has the capacity to treat 111,000 liters of water per hour.
