Petrobras adjusts price of cooking gas by 4%

Petrobras said on Friday (22) that it will readjust the sale price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for canister of up to 13 kilos, popularly known as cooking gas, by 4% from Monday (25). The state also decided to increase the price of industrial and commercial LPG by 0.6%. With the high, the price of the two products will be matched. In August, the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) decided to end different pricing policy among the different gas canisters. In 2005, a CNPE resolution determined that the LPG leaked in canisters of up to 13 kilos should be sold to distributors at lower prices than gas in cylinders with more volume capacity. However, the CNPE understood that the resolution produced distortions in the gas market and did not guarantee the expected discounts for households, especially low-income ones. Until then, Petrobras sold the gas that goes to canisters of up to 13 kilos with lower price and compensated for the difference in larger canisters.
