Braskem defines initiatives in favour of circular economy

Braskem, the largest producer of plastic resins in the Americas and the world leader in the production of biopolymers, defined a number of global initiatives to boost Circular Economy in the production of processed products. "We are steadfast in purpose to contribute to the transformation of the linear economy on a Circular Economy, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable development," says Fernando Musa, President of Braskem. "To establish a list of global initiatives, adhering to voluntary commitments and expressing publicly a global positioning in favour of Circular Economy, Braskem is inviting customers, value chain partners, its members and society in General to extend the joint effort in search of innovative and sustainable solutions through the use of plastic ". Titled "positioning of Braskem in Circular Economy", the document defines initiatives for development partnerships with customers in the design of new products to expand and facilitate the recycling and reuse of plastic packaging, especially the single use. He also the advancement of investment in new renewable source resins, such as the Green Plastic made from sugar cane, and support for new technologies, business models and systems of collection, sorting, recycling and recovery of materials. The initiatives also include promotion and engagement of consumers at recycling programs through educational actions of conscious consumption, the use of life-cycle assessment and support for actions to improve waste management solids in order to prevent the disposal at sea.
