Unilever buys mother earth company, healthy products

São Paulo – Unilever has just announced the purchase of the brazilian brand of natural and organic snacks mother earth, for an undisclosed amount.
Created in 1979 by businessman Alexandre Borges, the company grew at rates in excess of 30% annually, with a portfolio that includes cereals, cookies, snacks and culinary products. The profile of the company, coupled with the market potential, that's what would have motivated the purchase.
According to Euromonitor, the thread has value estimated at more than eight billion euros in Brazil. The country is the fifth largest market for healthy foods and beverages in the world, with 79% of consumers considering health and nutrition priorities.
The brand grew thanks to the increased offerings, like cereal bars and products signed by the Beautiful Gil, combined with expanding logistics effort, says Euromonitor report. With Unilever, the expansion should be even faster.
Fernando Fernandez, President of Unilever Brazil, says in a statement that the acquisition will strengthen the giant's portfolio here "allowing speed up our expansion in natural and organic segments that grow so important".
Alexandre Borges, CEO of mother earth, claims that with the acquisition, Unilever will "accelerate the Mission of bringing natural and organic foods to a larger number of people in Brazil".
Borges will continue as General Director of the company, which will be managed by the new owner.
