China reopens its doors to the camembert and brie

Chinese health authorities have withdrawn the ban on the import of some kinds of cheese, including French as camembert and brie, according to European Union (EU) and industry professionals consulted by AFP.
The Chinese Customs began two months ago, without warning, a block the import of white cheese and blue cheese, such as camembert, brie, roquefort and Italian gorgonzola.
These products contain bacteria cultures used habitually in the production of cheeses in Europe. But Chinese law stipulated clearly if these types of bacteria were legal or not.
Meetings last week between representatives of the European Union (EU) and Chinese health authorities allowed unlock the situation, said William Fingleton, spokesman for the EU delegation in Beijing.
The Chinese Government sent a document to the Chinese Agency of food safety to inform that the bacteria used in the production of the cheeses are not harmful to health. The trade returned to normal.
