Groceries rise 3.6% in one year

Retraction in consumption last year in Brazil caused the Ceagesp index, which measures the change in prices of more than 150 horticultural products, stay below inflation, accumulating high of 3.56% in 2016.

The highlights of high in 2016 were the lemon Tahiti (94.6%), the dwarf (94.3%) banana, avocado (70.8%), banana (55.8%) and guava (31.5%). Among the vegetables, cassava (147%), yams (86.6%) and Arracacha (42.4%).
The reduction in prices of horticultural products occurred even in a year when production was affected by climate problems and low investment in production. The production in the Northeast suffered from the drought, while in the South the excess rains were the problem.
The Ceagesp provides that the supply of vegetables will follow restricted because frequent rains and high temperatures. Already the fruits should have good offer and rates reduced by about 2016.
