World Tourism will grow 3.1% in 2016, WTTC says

The World Travel Tourism Council (WTTC), an organization that brings together the largest tourism companies in the world — between networks of hotels, airlines and travel agencies--revised downwards the growth projection of sales generated in that industry for an expansion of 3.1 percent before 2015. The previous estimate, made in March, was an advance of 3.3%.
The review was determined by the negative impacts of events such as terrorist attacks in Europe and the Middle East mainly, United Kingdom European Union output and economic recession in Brazil.
In the case of tourism in Brazil, the WTTC says the industry will have in 2016 1 retraction of 1.6% before 2015. Fall is greater than the previous forecast of 0.9%
"Despite the positive effects provided by the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the political uncertainty and the weak economy have led to the revision down of estimates for tourism in Brazil", points out the entity in a document released on Monday.
The tourist markets of France and Turkey are the most affected by terrorism, said the WTTC. The travel sector in France will have 1.1 percent expansion this year, down from a previous forecast of growth of 2.9%.
Sales related to tourism in Turkey have retraction of 3.2%. The previous forecast was a slight 0.2 percent advance.
In the United Kingdom, the impact of the decision to leave the European Union will reduce by 3% the British trips abroad. On the other hand, the island will have an increase of 2.5% in domestic spending with trips.
To the region of South Asia, which includes India, the WTTC projected a growth of 5.9%. Australia will advance 4.9% and the United States will have a 3.1% increase in tourism-related business.
