Supermarkets paulistas hired more than fired

On the basis of official information of the Caged (General Register of employed and unemployed), Apas (São Paulo Association of Supermarkets) accounted for admissions 18,961 against commercial establishments shutdowns 18,085 wholesale and retail, including small markets, supermarkets and hypermarkets. The survey corresponds to the month of may in the supermarket sector in the State of São Paulo in Brazil.
The result of the equation between the number of admissions and the volume of unplanned outages in the fifth month of the year, represents high of 0.17% compared to April and variation of-0.50% over the last 12 months. "It is the best result since the beginning of the year," analyzes the Economy and research manager of APAS, Rodrigo Mariano.
According to the survey made by the entity, the supermarket sector currently employs more than 510,000 people throughout the State and features a gradual fall in the number of layoffs. "We have an indicator that there is a slowdown in unemployment in the supermarket sector. That, in a crisis situation, it is very important to reach stable levels of employment, "says Mariano.
The increase in the number of neighborhood markets last year also brings positive prospects of employability. Each small market employs, on average, 15 people.
The supermarket sector performance in Caged contradicts the trade as a whole. When computed all activities of Commerce, the State of São Paulo presented more layoffs (381,932) than hiring (369,755) and ended the month of may with negative balance of 12,117 jobs terminated. The participation of supermarkets and hypermarkets in the total of registered shutdowns across the commercial activity of São Paulo was only 5%.
