Rice, beans and milk, the villains of the famine

Spending on food are playing the high cost of living. In July, the national consumer price Index Large 15 (IPCA-15) — considered the prior official inflation — surged to 0.54%. The result surprised market analysts, who expected to stay close to 0.43%. The villains of this high were the costs of basic food basket items: beans (black and Rio); the rice; and the long-life milk. Together, these three items contributed 0.38 percentage point of the bookmark in the month, IE, 70.4% of the famine, according to figures released yesterday by the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE). In the year, the IPCA-15 climbed 5.19% and, in 12 months, accumulated 8.93%.

Unable to stop consuming rice and beans in meals, the hairdresser Geslaini Góes, 56 years, tried everything to keep the budget under control. Rather than take the carioca beans to the table, replaced by black to try to spend less. The Exchange, however, had the economy not expected. "Two prices are beyond count. The beans are, without a doubt, the product that weighs more in my pocket. Spent 200 R$ with purchases of food, today, do not leave for less than $ 300, "she said, which will buy, for now, the black-eyed type, which is more into account.

With a 58.1% variation, the carioca bean was with high July among the more than 400 goods or services surveyed by the IPCA-15. The creamy types and black are just behind, with growth of 45.94% and 34.23%, respectively. Although rice has advanced a lot less, 3.36%, the high has not gone unnoticed in the hairdresser Meidiam George, 37. "Last month, it paid $ 13 for five kilos of rice, now the same product is leaving the $ 19", complained.

To keep the consumption at home, went on to buy a lesser amount and choose the product no longer by brand, but by price. Always choose what''s cheapest. But don''t feel relief in your pocket. "Calculating above, I think the costs soared 50% supermarket", he lamented.

Replacement

With the sharp increase of beans, rice and milk, expenditure on food and beverages as a whole press inflation. On average, this group spending rose an average of 1.45%, the highest for the month since 2008. To father Flavio Demoliner, 54, the price of virtually all foods rose. "I have replaced everything to keep shopping. For example, garlic I don''t even buy more. The price of the pound is very high, "he said.

Fruits in the shopping cart, just when the value is too flashy, says Dave. Bananas, for example, climbed 8% in July — one of the 10 largest individual high this month. Not to stop getting the beans and rice home, the priest went on to buy at wholesale, consider more advantageous for the Pocket. "The price is lower than in other trades. But, still, it''s too expensive. My expenses have risen alarmingly. Earlier this year, spent approximately of 150 R$ per week. Today, to buy the same amount, spent twice as much, "he said.

The jump in inflation is astounding, but families, to analysts, the observed increase in July was punctual. For the Senior Economist of the National Confederation of trade in goods, services and tourism (CNC), Fábio Bentes, the retraction of economic activity will contribute to the decline in famine. "In other groups the IPCA-15 we can observe a very clear sign of lack of demand" evaluated.

In 12 months, to date between nine classes of expenditure surveyed by the indicator, only the cost of food and beverages recorded high. Bentes points out that the diffusion index — which measures the spread of high prices on household consumption basket — stuck in July 57.6%. This means that every 100 products and services, 57 feature increase. In the same period last year, this indicator was at 67%.

Dish made is more expensive

With the high prices, the traditional dish made of Brazilians are increasingly expensive. Year to date, the 11 spending items that make up the meal went up 9.03% on average, according to the Brazilian Institute of Economics of Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Ibre-FGV). Is double the result for the same period by the consumer price index (CPI), which stuck at 4.5%. In the year, the main individual increases between the products surveyed were the bean-carioca (81.89%), English (51.65%) potato and cassava flour (17.42%).
