Quarterly sales grow Casino drawn by GPA performance in Brazil

PARIS-the French retailer Casino reported on Wednesday that sales accelerated in the second quarter driven by the performance of its assets in Brazil, where its appliance unit grew back after a year of decline.
On the French market, however, the performance of the Casino suffered setbacks by factors that included unfavorable weather, strikes and floods.
The Casino, which controls Grupo Pão de Açúcar in Brazil, said that its sales reached 9.97 billion euros.
Excluding acquisitions, currency effects and fuel revenue, sales are up 3,8%, an acceleration compared to 1,5% growth seen in the first quarter.
Same store sales in the brazilian network of furniture and appliances Via Retail grew 2,6%, a significant improvement compared to the fall of 11,8% suffered in the first quarter.
The numbers of the Casino were disclosed after the GPA announced the day before that its consolidated net revenues grew 5% in the second quarter over the same period last year, to 16.7 billion reais, supported by calendar effects.
