McDonald''s suspends sale of Big Mac in Venezuela, says agency

McDonald''s has suspended the sale in Venezuela of its most famous hamburger, the Big Mac, for difficulties with a supplier, the company announced.
"McDonald''s Venezuela worked to overcome this temporary situation. Together with our supplier, we evaluate the best options that will allow us to continue offering quality products, "said the company in a statement sent to AFP on Thursday (21).
The company detailed the intricacies, but press releases indicate that the Big Mac is no longer marketed by lack of a traditional loaf of bread that separates the two portions of meat. McDonald''s added that, for now, will continue offering other products to its menu.
The franchise had previously been forced to suspend the sale of chips between January and November 2015, faced with the impossibility of importing the pre-cooked product.
All this amid a shortage of dollars because of the fall in the price of oil, 96% generator of hard currency in the country, whose monopoly is held by the State since 2003 through a strict foreign exchange control.
Venezuelans suffer from a shortage of 80% of food and medicines, according to private estimates. The sale of potatoes at McDonald''s was taken up with the replacement of the national production, but there was a substantial increase in the price.
At the time, the fast-food network has launched an advertising campaign for customers to consume along with cassava and potato '' arepas '' (a kind of bread), used temporarily to complete the menu.
McDonald''s has been present for three decades in Venezuela.
