Lighting industry invests in LED

The ban on the manufacture of incandescent bulbs, which entered into force at the beginning of July, reinforced the change in the lighting industry and encouraged more domestic manufacturers of LED lamps. To leverage â trend, more companies are positioning themselves in the market. The ATME Eco Solutions, which will inaugurate in August a plant in Jundiaí, São Paulo, for the manufacture of light bulbs and LED lamps, with a production capacity of 360,000 lamps and luminaires 60000 per month.
Due to the changes, the Brazilian Association of lighting industry (Abilux) revised its projections for revenues in the sector of lighting this year. Until then, the expectation was low of 7% in comparison with 2015. Now, the Association provides stability in relation to R$ 3.9 billion last year. For the LED segment, the expectation of Abilux is 30% growth in demand this year, before the light bulbs sold in 2015 81,000,000.
For Avi Meizler, President of ATME Eco Solutions, are also growing expectations in the segment. The company''s plans include the expansion of the monthly production of lamps to 720,000 units per month from the first half of 2017. In relation to lamps, used in lighting, production should reach 86000 per month.
In addition to the Brazilian market, the company also plans to export to countries of Latin America. "We believe that we will export around 40% to 50% of the production", says Meizler. The production unit will be inaugurated in August, but, during the process of capacity expansion, beginning in 2017 the factory must have 70% to 80% of the items nationalised. "The only thing we''re going to continue importing is the microchip of the LED, which really doesn''t make up for manufacture in small scale," said the Executive.
The importation of LED is a reality for all industries that manufacture these lamps and luminaires in Brazil. The argument is that the microchip is expensive and, so that their production could be worth, would require a very large scale. So the country that focuses the LED manufacturing is China, which exports to almost all over the world. Also mind the LED lamps and mounting fixtures companies such as Philips and GE, through its Current unit, powered by GE.
In addition to take advantage of the increased demand for lamps of this type by 85% savings provided in relation to incandescent, the manufacturers also aim to take advantage of the recent spate of public private partner (Ppp) in large Brazilian municipalities to exchange for public lighting by a more efficient.
"We believe that we have a lot of work over the next 20 years, not only in Brazil as in all Latin America. Will have to change the light Park, both in the public and private sector. It is a world trend and the Brazil and Latin America are inserinos in it ", says Meizler. The ATME Eco Solutions is evaluating participate in PPPs public lighting in the country, depending on the economic viability of each case.
In a recent interview to > value, the Current President, powered by GE, Rodrigo Martins, said the company also negotiates contracts to provide fixtures for Brazilian cities. "There are more than 80 PPPs [public-private partnerships] open. We had always planned to bring the plant to Brazil, "said the Executive.
