Retail sales fall 10.9%, the worst result since 2007

São Paulo-registered retail sales fall 10.9% real in April compared with the same month of 2015, according to the Institute for development of retail (IDV).
The organisation, which brings together some of the largest retailers of Brazil, points out that this is the worst performance for the month since the beginning of the measurements, in 2007.
The Institute weighed in note that the result was affected by the deterioration of the macroeconomic scenario, but pointed out that a calendar effect contributed to the fall.
Easter sales were recorded mostly in March this year, while they were held in April last year.
The forecast is for continued shrinkage in sales scenario in accordance with the Foregoing Sales Index (IAV), measured by the entity based on retailers '' expectations.
The indicator points to fall 7.7% real in May and 6.5% in June compared with the same months of the previous year. For July, the sector believes in high of 0.5% in sales.
In April, the worst result was the nondurable sector, just as affected by the calendar effect. Sales in the segment that includes supermarkets, fast food and Perfumery, retreated 12.4% in April compared to the previous year.
For the next few months, the projection of the IDV is 10.5% drop in May and 8.8% in June. Already in July for high projection of 0.9%.
Semi-durable goods industry, which includes items of clothing, the fall in April was 5.6% compared to same month of 2015 in real terms. Retailers expect new indents of 4.7% in may, 3.3% in June to 2.6% in July.
In the durable goods segment, the fall in April was 11.9% in real terms compared to the previous year. The projection for the next few months is to fall to 4.4% in May and June and from growth of 1.9% in July.
The IDV represents 69 retailers companies from different sectors. Among the partners are large networks such as Carrefour, Grupo Pão de Açúcar (GPA), Cia. Hering, Magazine Luiza, Renner and Riachuelo.
