Supermarket sales grow 8.44% in March

Supermarkets across the country have earned 8.44% more in March than in February with amounts already deflated by the national consumer price index (IPCA), the Brazilian Institute of geography and statistics (IBGE).
On March 2015, there was high of 4.16% and, in the first quarter of 2016, of 1.18%.
The data are from the National Sales Index Search Open, calculated by the Economics and Research Department of the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Open).
The President of the entity, Fernando Yamada, attributed the growth to the fact that Easter has been celebrated in March. Noted that the Easter period is the second best in sales for the sector.
Despite the increase, he recalled that the two previous months accumulated fall of 0.36%, manifesting the expectation of poor performance throughout the year.
"For April, however, the perspective is reset when compared with April of last year. With this, we continue with the same perspective with which we started the year, a fall of 1.8% in sales in 2016, "he said.
Crisis
This negative projection, as Yamada, due to uncertainties about the future of the economy in the face of political turmoil.
"To grow, we need to stabilize the political crises and plan in the medium and long term, generating more jobs and income for the worker return to reactivate the consumption," he pleaded.
The open also reported that the prices of 35 products that make up the basket searched by the increased average 1.07%, from R$ 456.22 (in February) to R$ 461.12 (in March).
Among the items were more expensive are the long-life milk, beer, liquid detergent for dishes and sugar. Among the products in the fall are the onion, tomato, SOAP and shampoo.
By region, the basket that had the greatest increase was in the Midwest (3.12%), with the R$ value 447.38. In the North, has been verified ( -1.69%) with the value of R$ 505.97.
