Brazil recycles 98% of aluminium beverage cans

The rate of recycling of aluminum beverage cans in Brazil reached 97.9% in 2015, with a total of 292,500 tons of recycled cans, almost all packaging placed on the market.
The data, released today (28), are Brazilian Aluminum Association (Abal) and the Brazilian Association of manufacturers of cans of highly recyclable cans (Abralatas).
According to the two entities, only on collecting the cans were injected approximately of 730 million in brazilian economy R$.
"The value is equivalent to almost a million minimum wages per year, confirming the importance of recycling to the generation of employment and income for the pickers of recyclable materials," said the Coordinator of the recycling market Abal, Mario Fernandez.
According to the entity, the recycling of cans consumes only 5% of the energy that would be used for the production of the same from the primary aluminum, extracted from the bauxite.
"The economy of energy generated in this recycling would meet residential demand annual energy of a State as Goiás," said Fernandez.
