Popular fish market gains and price drops

On high between 5% and 10% on the values of traditional imported from Easter, such as cod and salmon, the output to the extractive industry was betting on an increase in the supply of most popular varieties. Hake, sardines and cation held high of 11.2% of sales in São Paulo, in the last week, and national fish prices should follow in fall.
The data are from the previous balance for the sector called Semana Santa, held by Warehouses and general stores of São Paulo (Ceagesp). According to a survey of the entity were recorded sales of 6,754 tons of fish in the period, against 6,073 tons traded in annual comparison.
"The popular had a bigger offer. The noble fish were more expensive and the consumer may have migrated to the most popular products on the basis of this good offer, "says economist at Ceagesp, Flávio Godas.
At the moment the purchasing power of families decreases and import costs increase, imported varieties have lost space for produce grown within the country. As demand is seasonally very sharp this time of year, the extractive sector raised the volume available for sale.
"The balance is still not consolidated, but hake, sardines and cation were those who jumped in our eyes," recalls Godas. According to the Economist, the hake was the only one who had the stable price on annual variation in R $ 9 per pound. The other two had their falls of 40% and 16.9%, to $ 2.50 and R $ per * cent *.
In March, the average cost of category fish had climbed 4.42%, highlighting the high on corvina, of 23.7%, tilapia, from 20.3%, mullet, of 17.4%, and salmon, with 10.35%.
In the evaluation of Godas, the trend for the next few months is to drop in values due to increased supply and possible reduction in consumption.
